Ben Line Flights – Celebrating 200 Years
On 12 August 2025, former Ben Line cadet and officer Tam Carr took to the skies over Scotland with his 10-year-old grandson, Ed, to mark Ben Line’s 200th anniversary. Flying his own single-engine aircraft, Tam honoured our history by tracing the Scottish mountains—38 of which once gave their names to Ben Line vessels.
Covering more than 700 miles in over nine hours, adding with stops for fuel and rest the total time from first take off until final landing was 12 hours 15 minutes, this special flight symbolised the enduring connection between Ben Line and the seafaring community that has shaped us.
Tam, founder of the Ben Line Facebook group (established in 2009 and co-run with fellow ex-seafarer Ian Keyl), continues to bring together shipmates and their families from across the decades.
Thanks to the generous support of many, the flight also raised £1,750 for The Seafarer’s Charity.
A remarkable tribute to both our past and our people.
