Ethical Leadership in Action

Our CEO Kristian Vandermeer joined Ardmore Shipping Corporation's CEO Mark Cameron for an inspiring fireside chat on ethical leadership.

"Ethical leadership is making sure that you are not just doing the easy thing. It's about doing the right thing when nobody is watching."

Key insights from their discussion:

  • True leadership means standing by your principles and people, especially in difficult moments
  • Building trust requires personal connection with seafarers who face corruption pressures on the frontlines
  • Strong values must translate into concrete actions, not just words on paper
  • Today's leaders navigate unprecedented complexity, requiring principled decision-making at every level
  • Ethical leadership must begin with the board and flow through every organizational layer

Collective Action for Real Change

Our Chief Compliance Officer Therry van Vreden contributed to multiple panel discussions:

  • Say No Campaign: As project lead for the Malaysia campaign launched last October, Therry shared insights on building collective action and engaging stakeholders.
  • Indonesia Focus: With MACN placing dedicated staff in Indonesia, Therry brought practical perspectives from his operational oversight role.
  • Southeast Asia Working Group: Representing FONASBA (Deputy Regional VP for Asia), Therry joined this collaborative initiative between MACN, BIMCO, Intertanko, Intercargo, ICS, and FONASBA—focusing on improving trade efficiency, starting with Indonesia's vessel permit process.

Tackling maritime corruption is bigger than any single company. Together, we're making a difference.
