At Ben Line, shipping is more than logistics — it's about preserving history. We recently transported the MV Koolama II bell to the WA Museum, a culturally significant artifact requiring careful planning and precision. We're proud to have played a role in honoring Australia's maritime legacy.
We are proud to share our recent work on a project with deep historical roots!
Ben Line recently had the honour of shipping the bell of the MV Koolama II from British Columbia, Canada, to its new home at the Western Australian Museum.
The story behind this bell is truly captivating, representing a proud era for the WA State Shipping Service. The original MV Koolama, has an incredible WWII history. It survived one Japanese air attack off the Kimberley coast, only to be sunk in another raid at the Wyndham wharf in March 1942. This ship had previously evacuated 56 children out of Singapore and transported further evacuees from Timor.
The bell we shipped is thought to have belonged to MV Koolama II, a vessel that continued the legacy of the State Shipping Service, sailing the WA coast from 1958 until 1973. This service was crucial to connecting and supplying remote communities in Western Australia, particularly in the Kimberley & Pilbara regions.
The Western Australian Museum's Maritime Heritage Collection not only preserves a physical piece of history but also helps tell the story of these two vital ships and their place in Australia's maritime past.
We're thrilled to have played our part in preserving this important piece of history for future generations.
